Frank Huang

First Prize Winner

Frank Huang started to play the violin at the age of seven with his mother. At age ten, he began studies with Fredell Lack, violin professor at the University of Houston (Texas). The same year, he gave his debut concert with the Houston Youth Symphony as a result of winning their concerto competition. At age eleven, he performed Mozart´s Violin Concerto No. 4 in D-Major KV 218 with the Houston Symphony Orchestra as part of a nationally broadcast concert. Since then he has performed with orchestras in many cities, including Cleveland, Galveston, Santa Barbara, San Francisco, Dallas and Genoa.

Frank Huang has won numerous competitions, including three first prizes in the Houston Youth Symphony Competition, first prize in the Kingsville International Competition (where he also won a special award for the best violin concerto performance), first prize in the Music Academy of the West´s Concerto Competition, first prize in the Irving M. Klein International Competition, second prize in the California Young Artists International Competition, second place in the Premio Paganini International Competition in Genoa/Italy and the first prize at the D´Angelo International Competition.

Frank Huang´s musical mentors include such distinguished teachers and performing artists as David Cerone, Robert Lippsett, Maxim Vengerov, Joseph Gingold, Ruggieri Ricci, Peter Salaff, Kathleen Winkler, Zvi Zeitlin and Marilyn Horne. He is currently a student at the Cleveland Institute of Music, where he studies with Donald Weilerstein.

Frank Huang is the First Prize Winner of the 2000 Hannover International Violin Competition.
