Goals

The Hannover International Violin Competition is presented in the state capital every three years by the Foundation of Lower Saxony. The Competition is intended to promote musical education in the broadest sense. By providing cash awards, scholarships and debut concerts as well as a CD production for the First Prize Winner, the Foundation aims to support and encourage talented young artists as they pursue their careers on the concert podium. In addition, the professional and personal contacts made in Hannover can be of true assistance on the difficult path the young soloist has chosen to take.

The Competition is a member of the World Federation of International Music Competitions in Geneva. Hannover´s major musical institutions are partners in the Competition: the Hannover Academy of Music and Theatre Arts, the Hannover Opera House and the North German Broadcasting Company. Many families in Hannover and environs extend their hospitality to the participants and their accompanists during the Competition.

The Foundation of Lower Saxony was founded in 1985. Its purpose is the support of science, education, art and culture in the State of Lower Saxony. Outstanding on its agenda is the presentation of the Hannover International Violin Competition.
